Going White for Green Savings

Going green is all the rage these days.  Manufactures of everything from cars and trucks to lawnmowers and bicycles are releasing ‘Electric’ models in the fast-growing segment, as public pressure mounts to preserve the environment and move away from fossil fuels.  But not everyone is new to the “Green Machine” format. E-Crane Worldwide, a Belgian-based supplier of cranes for heavy duty bulk and scrap handling applications, has been producing all-electric E-Cranes since the 1990’s.  The Equilibrium Crane or “E-Crane” is not just any electric crane.  It is the most energy...

E-Crane gives the Green Advantage

Energy consumption and environmental impact are key when it comes to investment in new port equipment – in other words, the environmental impact of a port crane needs to be minimized. On the other hand, the cost associated with handling one ton of bulk material also has great importance, as this shows the economic feasibility. When handling difficult dry bulk materials as well as steel scrap, hydraulic material handlers have become standard and are considered the most suitable solution for the job. Wherever you look, traditional rope cranes are being replaced by hydraulic units that...

SETTING THINGS STRAIGHT: Why Swing Bearing Selection is CRUCIAL for Long Life

It has been mentioned that E-Crane® uses “Single Row Ball Slewing Rings” by our friendly competition. Let us set the record straight and give you some genuine information on “Slewing Rings” used by E-Crane®. The single row ball configuration with four point contact raceways is a commonly employed slew bearing for cranes and some material handlers. This design does not meet the E-Crane® standards! Therefore E-Crane® only uses ‘Roller Slewing Rings’ with a line contact between roller and raceway. First of all, the slew bearing is the most fundamental mechanical element of a crane, excavator...

Featured Customer: Shamrock Materials

Robert McIntosh was the President of Shamrock’s Landing Way Depot for this start-up project and ran the operations for several years. “We started with a self-unloading barge, but that was a slow, inefficient, low capacity operation. We needed something much better for full scale operations.” During the investigation process, Shamrock became aware of E-Crane’s uncomplicated equilibrium design with its high capacity, simple maintenance, long service life and ease of operation—all the things the Shamrock transloading operation absolutely needed. “We explained our situation,...

E-Dredger “Albatros” owned by Herbosch-Kiere at work in the port of Ostend

The top layer of the sea defense consists of so-called Haro blocks, each weighing in at 15 tons. The longitudinal dikes are needed to increase the accessibility of the port for larger sea going vessels and at the same time protect the city against flooding. Recently, the construction of these dams in the Port of Ostend has taken off. The eastern part is already taking shape nicely while the western part still needs more work. In the meantime, the complete area is being dredged. For this, the dredging vessel ‘Pinocchio’ – especially brought in from South-Africa – is being used. These impressive...

The electrically powered handling machines stand high above the assorted heaps of metal turning 360 degrees to make up loads from different classes of scrap including compressed cans, white goods, cars and heavy girders. They have to be able to work continuously without...

Rotterdam: Construction of Maasvlakte 2 enters new phase

Port of Rotterdam in The Netherlands says construction of Maasvlakte 2 project is proceeding well. The construction of the first quay wall began in February and the contractors’ consortium, called PUMA, has started building the hard sea defences along the northwest side of the new land. Over the last few months, a peninsula stretching approximately 3km was reclaimed...

De één heeft het over het hunnebed van Rotterdam; de ander noemt het Stonehenge aan de Maas. PUMA heeft tijdelijk 1000 grote betonnen blokken geparkeerd op een hoekje van Maasvlakte 2.
