Cargill Fertilizer Houston

Description of the E-Crane

Cargill Fertilizer has purchased a second new E-Crane® that was installed in April 2001 at its Houston Ship Channel facility. The new grab type E-Crane® is designed for discharging fertilizer and grain from ocean going barges and bulk carriers up to Panamax size.

Ricky Carlson, the Cargill Wholesale Fertilizer Manager said, “this second E-Crane® purchase by Cargill is part of our on going commitment to improve customer service and increase fertilizer volume at our facilities”.

The Cargill E-Crane® was designed by E-Crane International USA together with input from Cargill management… specially for this operation.

The installation was complex as the dock had limited space, was 100 feet out in the Houston Ship Channel, and another contractor was installing the hopper and overhead conveyor at the same time as crane installation.

Bill Beebe from ECI-USA led the “on-time” installation team and developed several new assembly techniques, which will be incorporated into future installation projects.
