DESCRIPTION OF THE E-CRANE
In April 2024, Apical reached a significant milestone with the successful commissioning of their two new 700B Series. E-Cranes at the SDS 2 Coal jetty in Dumai, Sumatra. The dual-crane configuration enables the efficient unloading of 8,000-ton barges without requiring barge shifting, and together the cranes achieve a combined unloading rate exceeding 700 tons per hour. Each crane functions independently with a dedicated hopper, which is connected by conveyor belts to the coal stockpile supplying Apical’s power plant.
The project was executed under the supervision of E-Crane’s local team based in Balikpapan, Kalimantan, working in close coordination with Apical’s appointed contractor, who provided manpower and supporting equipment during the installation and commissioning
phases. The E-Crane team also delivered comprehensive operator and technical training, ensuring that operations commenced safely, efficiently, and in line with long-term sustainability objectives.
Apical Group, one of the largest palm oil exporters in Indonesia, operates an integrated palm oil refinery in Dumai. The facility processes crude palm oil into refined products such as edible oils, specialty fats, and biodiesel, which are supplied to both domestic and international markets. The commissioning of the new E-Cranes strengthens Apical’s energy infrastructure by securing reliable coal handling for its captive power plant, ensuring consistent refinery operations and supporting the company’s growth in the global palm oil value chain.
